Digital Intraoral Scanners
Traditional dental impressions require biting down on a tray filled with putty material, which can trigger gagging and discomfort, especially in children. We have replaced this process entirely with digital intraoral scanners.
How it works: A small wand-shaped camera is moved around your child’s mouth, capturing thousands of images per second. These images are stitched together by software into an exact 3D model of the teeth and gums, displayed on a screen in real time.
Benefits for your child:
- No messy putty or gagging
- Scans take 1-3 minutes
- More accurate than traditional impressions
- Your child can see their own teeth on screen (kids find this fascinating)
- Digital records can be stored and compared at future visits to track changes
We use digital scans for orthodontic evaluations, space maintainer fittings, night guard fabrication, and monitoring dental development over time.
AI-Assisted Cavity Detection
Catching a cavity at its earliest stage means simpler, less invasive treatment. Our office uses AI-powered diagnostic software that analyzes dental X-rays and flags areas of concern that may be too small for the human eye to detect.
How it works: After taking your child’s digital X-rays, the AI software processes the images and highlights areas of potential demineralization or early decay. Our dentists then review these flagged areas, combining the AI’s analysis with their own clinical judgment.
What this means for your child:
- Cavities are caught earlier, often before they cause any symptoms
- Earlier treatment means smaller fillings, or sometimes just preventive care (fluoride, sealants) instead of a filling at all
- More consistent detection across all teeth in every X-ray set
- No additional steps or discomfort for your child. The AI works on the same X-rays we already take.
This technology does not replace our dentists’ expertise. It adds an extra layer of precision to every diagnostic evaluation.
Laser Technology
We use dental lasers for soft tissue procedures including tongue-tie releases, lip-tie releases, and gum tissue treatment. Laser procedures are faster, produce less bleeding, and often require no anesthesia.
See our full Laser Dentistry page for details.
Digital X-Rays
All X-rays at our office are digital, which means:
- Up to 90% less radiation compared to traditional film X-rays
- Images appear instantly on screen (no waiting for film development)
- Images can be enhanced, zoomed, and compared side-by-side with previous visits
- Easy to share with specialists or insurance providers if needed
We follow the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) and only take X-rays when clinically necessary, based on your child’s individual risk factors and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry guidelines.
Kid-Friendly Environment
Technology is only part of the picture. Our office is designed from the ground up for children:
- TVs with cartoons and shows at every chair
- Bright, welcoming decor
- Staff trained specifically in working with children and reducing anxiety
- Sedation options available when needed (nitrous oxide, hospital-based sedation)
Our commitment to modern technology means your child gets more accurate diagnoses, less invasive treatments, and a more comfortable experience. Schedule your child’s visit to see the difference.
