Meet Dr. Yury Slepak: Brooklyn's Pediatric Emergency Specialist
Board-Certified Expertise You Can Trust in a Crisis
Dr. Yury Slepak, DDS, is a Board-Certified Pediatric Dentist with over a decade of experience treating children of all ages. He graduated with Honors from the New York University College of Dentistry. Right after, he completed his Pediatric Dentistry Residency at Maimonides Medical Center, one of Brooklyn's top teaching hospitals.
Why a Pediatric Specialist Matters in an Emergency
A general dentist treats everyone. A pediatric dentist like Dr. Slepak completed two to three extra years of specialized training focused only on children. That means smaller instruments built for little mouths, child-friendly techniques, and the ability to keep a scared kid calm when it matters most.
During my residency at Maimonides, I trained to handle every type of pediatric dental emergency, from knocked-out teeth to severe infections. That experience is what allows our team to move quickly and keep your child comfortable at the same time.
What to Do Right Now: Emergency First Aid for Your Child's Teeth
If you are on your way to our office, these quick steps can protect your child’s tooth and reduce pain.

If a Permanent Tooth Is Knocked Out
Pick up the tooth by the top part (the crown). Do not touch the root. Rinse it gently with water. Do not scrub it. Place the tooth in a cup of milk to keep it alive. If your child is old enough, they can hold it in their cheek. Get to our office within 30 to 60 minutes. Time is critical for saving the tooth.

If Your Child Has a Severe Toothache or Swelling
Rinse their mouth with warm water. Place a cold compress on the outside of the cheek. Do not put aspirin or any painkiller directly on the gums or tooth. This can burn the tissue. Call us at (718) 998-2424 for an immediate appointment.

If a Tooth Is Chipped, Broken, or Cracked
Rinse the mouth to clear any blood or debris. If there is bleeding from the lip or tongue, press gently with gauze. Save any tooth pieces in milk if you can. Apply a cold compress for swelling. Then call us right away.

If Something Is Stuck Between Teeth
Try gentle flossing first. Do not use sharp objects like pins or toothpicks. These can cut gums or scratch teeth. If you cannot remove it, bring your child in and we will take care of it safely.
Pediatric Dental Emergencies We Treat Every Day
At Bite Squad Dental of NYC, Dr. Slepak and our team handle every type of children’s dental emergency. Here is what we see and treat regularly.

Severe Toothaches and Infections
A strong toothache often means an infection or deep cavity. We find the cause fast and provide relief, including same-day pulp therapy (baby root canal) if needed to save the tooth and stop the pain.

Knocked-Out Teeth
Baby tooth knocked out? Do not put it back in. Permanent tooth knocked out? Keep it moist in milk and bring it to us within the hour. We will work to reimplant and save it.

Chipped, Broken, or Fractured Teeth
We repair chips and fractures with tooth-colored bonding or pediatric crowns. If a nerve is exposed, we address the pain immediately and protect the tooth.

Swelling and Dental Abscesses
Facial swelling or a bump on the gums can mean an abscess. This is urgent. We take X-rays, drain the infection if needed, prescribe child-safe antibiotics, and relieve your child's pain.

Oral Injuries: Tongue, Lip, and Gum Cuts
Falls and collisions happen. We treat soft tissue injuries in our office. For deeper cuts that may need stitches, Dr. Slepak provides first aid and refers you to the right specialist.

Lost Fillings or Crowns
A missing filling or crown can cause sensitivity and pain. We replace them quickly so the tooth stays protected and your child feels normal again.

Broken Braces and Orthodontic Emergencies
A broken wire can poke cheeks and gums. Cover sharp ends with orthodontic wax if you have it. Do not try to cut the wire at home. Call us and we will fix it the same day.
A Calm, Pain-Free Experience for Your Child
We know an emergency visit can be scary for kids and stressful for parents. Everything about our office and our approach is designed to make your child feel safe.
Safe Sedation Options for Anxious Kids
For children in severe pain or with high anxiety, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help them relax. For more complex procedures or children with special needs, we also provide oral sedation or IV sedation with a pediatric anesthesiologist. Every option is discussed with you first.
Kid-Friendly Techniques That Build Trust
Our team uses the "Tell-Show-Do" method. We explain what we are going to do in simple words, show the tools in a friendly way, and then do the procedure. We also use praise, positive reinforcement, and distractions like ceiling-mounted TVs with cartoons. Parents are always welcome to stay in the room.
We customize our approach based on each child’s needs. Some kids do great with distraction and a calm voice. Others need a little extra help with laughing gas. The goal is always the same: no pain and no fear.

Emergency Pediatric Dentistry: Your Questions Answered
Q:
Does my child need the emergency room or a dentist?
A:
For dental injuries like knocked-out teeth, toothaches, or chipped teeth, a pediatric dentist is the right call. Emergency rooms usually cannot perform dental procedures on children. Call us first at (718) 998-2424 and we will tell you exactly what to do.
Q:
How soon can my child be seen?
A:
We prioritize emergencies and aim to see your child the same day during business hours. Call us and we will get you in as fast as possible.
Q:
Will my child need sedation for an emergency procedure?
A:
It depends on the procedure and your child’s comfort level. We discuss every option with you before we begin. Many treatments only need local numbing. For anxious kids or complex cases, we offer laughing gas, oral sedation, or IV sedation.
Q:
What if my child knocks out a baby tooth?
A:
Do not try to put a baby tooth back in. Clean the area gently and call us. We will check for any damage to the gums or surrounding teeth and make sure everything is healing properly.
Q:
How much does an emergency visit cost?
A:
Cost depends on the treatment needed. We accept most insurance plans and children’s Medicaid. For families without insurance, we offer payment plans. Our team goes over all costs before any treatment begins.
Q:
What should I do if my child has a toothache at night?
A:
Rinse with warm water, apply a cold compress to the cheek, and give an age-appropriate pain reliever. Call our office and leave a voicemail. We check messages after hours and will guide you through next steps.
